Thank you to all who have asked about Piper over the last few years. Her progress is miraculous. Even her Neurologist is in awe. To put it in a nut shell, she should NOT be doing anything she is able to do. But she is, thanks to all of you that cared.
She is now enrolled in Special Education Pre-school in the morning and attends the after school program in the afternoon with "normal" children. She has a shadow teacher that makes sure she participates in everything the class is doing. She LOVES school. She knows her ABC's, and loves singing "rock-a-bye-baby." Dora, Blues Clues, and Elmo are her favorite (and visually simple to watch), but we are trying to get her interested in the Backyardigans as well as Little Einstein's...there is only so much Dora a Mom & Dad can take!
With her visual impairment, we are limited to what she will focus on, so that is it for now. Her vision has improved since her eye surgery, her eyes were like e gecko (went different directions), but are now straight. She still has no depth perception, however, can see more directionally instead of peripherally.
She loves eating Mac & cheese and anything spicy. She is addicted to swings and all the fast rides that amusement parks will let her short self onto. Currently, the Matterhorn at Disneyland tops her list.
She was able to hold a bucket and walk for Halloween for the first time this year (6 blocks in 2006) and said "Trick-or-treat" when prompted. She was a vampire for school and a pirate for trick-or treating.
She is truly a miracle. Unfortunately, she lost her Nana (Gramma Linda Langness) to a heart attack in June of 2005 and still asks for her. Sometimes, we will look over and she is standing quietly in the house looking up at nothing, and she will say Nana. It gives us chills. We know she has another Angel looking out for her. Now there is Uncle Tony, Gramma Sandy and Nana all keeping an eye on her...we love and miss you all!
Piper will turn 5 on St. Patrick's Day. It has been a rough 5 years, many personnel losses, but many gains for the little Pie. As for another trip to Poland, when the funds are raised, we will be on the first plane. But until then, THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!
